The Creative Works of Andrea Freeman
Awakening Wonder Edventures (AWE) are fun, inspiring and educational nature outings led by naturalist, Andrea Freeman, that cultivate an enhanced sense of wonder and appreciation for the marvels of the natural world and our interconnectedness with it all.
These walk-abouts enable one to learn about local flora and fauna and the ecology of the different habitats in which they’re found while deepening one’s connection to the natural world in an enriching and engaging way.
All Awakening Wonder Edventures have a Deep Ecology emphasis and encourage deep listening practices that enrich the experience of the participants. These outings can be tailored for children or adults.
Awakening Wonder Edventures are offered in a variety of different locations, each with their own beautiful flora and fauna to learn about and celebrate. Choose from Oak Woodland, Meadow, Riparian, Coastal Marsh or Outer Coast habitats.
Walks often provide the opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of more than one habitat. Botany and ethnobotany outings are especially popular. Marine biology and tidepool fieldtrips can also be arranged.
Andrea is also available for classroom visits in the schools and school assembly programs, where she will present her water poem, H2Ode, in conjunction with an engaging talk about watershed ecology. This presentation can be followed by leading students on a nature outing in their local watershed.
Fun, interactive outdoor learning games and activities that teach students about watershed ecology principles are incorporated into the outings.
In addition to being educational, her school visits can inspire students to write their own poetry about water and nature.
